The GEO checklist: are you ready for AI search?
A quick self-test we use in our own audits too: if you hesitate on more than two of these, it's worth taking a closer look at your GEO setup.

Between "we've heard of GEO" and "we know where we stand," most companies still have a gap. This four-area checklist helps close it quickly and honestly, before you build out a bigger strategy.
Why this matters now
68% of Google searches ended without a single click to an external website in the first months of 2026. For searches with AI Overviews, the zero-click rate rises to 83%, and in Google's AI Mode it reaches 93%. Fundamentals
Are AI crawlers like GPTBot, PerplexityBot, and Google-Extended actually allowed to read your website? Is Schema.org markup implemented on your key pages? Are your FAQ sections technically marked up, not just visually formatted?
These three questions decide whether your content has any chance at all, regardless of how good it is on the merits.
Content
Do the first 150 to 200 words of your key pages answer the core question directly?
Does your content include current statistics with sources?
Are authors and update dates visible?
Do you have comparison and glossary content for close-to-purchase questions?
If you're mostly answering no here, you likely still have classic marketing storytelling in your content, not the clear, extractable structure AI systems favor.
Authority
Are you actively building mentions on trade media, forums, and comparison sites?
Do you have reviews in each target market?
Authority doesn't come from your own website alone. Just like in classic SEO, what others say about a brand matters as much as what the brand says about itself.
International
Is your GEO structure built separately for each language and market, not just translated?
Have you checked which AI systems actually matter in each target market?
Do you know how your brand currently performs in ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI across your different markets?
For international brands, this last area is often the most underestimated. What works for your home market doesn't simply transfer.
The first step matters more than the perfect plan
None of these four areas gets fully checked off in one afternoon. But every point you clarify today is one less risk costing you visibility in the race for AI search. Most important: test regularly with realistic questions whether and how your brand actually shows up. What you don't measure, you can't improve.
